The enchanting
city of Amsterdam is well over 700 years of age, but its spirit is younger
than ever. Water is the distinguishing feature of the cosmopolitan city.
Amsterdam consists of 70 islands separated by 50 miles of canals and
connected by more than 1,000 bridges. Be sure to visit the famous Rijsmuseum,
built in 1885, and home to the world's best collection of Dutch paintings
from the 13th to the 19th centuries. Rembrandt, of course, is the star
of the museum. Amsterdam's historic inner-city contains many places
of interest including the 19th century Sint Nicolaas Kerk, the medieval
weigh-house and Centraal Station, erected in 1889. Also save time to
see Anne Frank's house, where she and her family hid from the Nazis
during World War II. Amsterdam is a shopper's city as well. Whether
your interest is antiques, contemporary jewelry, diamonds or the famous
delftware, you will have lots to choose from. For some really interesting
shopping, don't miss the small shops along the canals. The food is great,
the people are friendly and helpful, and the nightlife is lively and
entertaining. Just one visit to Amsterdam will enchant you and bring
you back again and again.
